Exploring Southeast Greenland

Your Greenland adventure kicks off in the Southeast, one of the islandโ€™s most remote and seldom-visited regions. As you sail along the coast, the weather and ice conditions will shape your journey, ensuring each day and each excursion offers new and exciting adventures. The area is stunning, with a captivating maze of sprawling glaciers, towering mountains, and breathtaking fjords.

For those seeking extra thrills, consider an optional paddling excursion (for an additional cost). This unforgettable experience allows you to glide past icebergs and glaciers, providing unique photo opportunities.

Another potential destination is Lindenow Fjord (Kangerlussuatsiaq). If conditions allow, this spot is ideal for hiking through diverse flora, framed by majestic mountainย

vistas. This rarely visited deep fjord, fed by numerous glaciers, offers abundant opportunities for stunning photography.

Continuing our journey, we'll explore the lush southern coast of Greenland, often referred to as Arctic Patagonia. This region is a treasure trove of stunning landscapes and rich history. Itโ€™s easy to understand why Erik the Red named it Greenland: the vistas of icy waters against a backdrop of towering mountains and verdant valleys are simply breathtaking. The shores of the extensive fjord systems are dotted with small settlements, both ancient and contemporary, making South Greenland a fascinating area to explore.

One of the highlights is Prins Christian Sund (Ikerasassuaq), a complex network of narrow fjords and channels perfect for cruising. This magical sound features calving glaciers, jagged mountains, and sheer cliffs that dramatically plunge into the water. Exploring this stunning fjord from the comfort of your ship or a Zodiac offers an exhilarating experience. If conditions permit, going ashore provides opportunities for hikes suited to all levels.

Days 9 - 11

West Greenland

The west coast of Greenland, with its stunning glaciers, majestic mountains, and lively communities, is sure to leave you in awe. As we head north, we plan to take daily Zodiac excursions to explore local bays, channels, and landing sites. You'll have the chance to visit some of the charming communities scattered across the islands and fjords, cruising through some of the most picturesque locations in Greenland.

The west coast is also home to Nuuk, the captivating Greenlandic capital. You'll have time to stroll through the historic Old Nuuk neighborhood and visit notable sites like the Hans Egede Church and the Hans Egede statue near the waterfront, both named after the missionary who founded the settlement. History enthusiasts will definitely want to explore the national museum to see the famous Greenlandic mummies, discovered in 1972 by two brothers hunting ptarmigan under a rock outcrop.

Polar Plunge

polar plunge activity on an expedition cruise

During each voyage, we carve out a special moment for the Polar Plunge, a thrilling dive into the icy waters, scheduled just once for those daring enough to leap. Our Expedition Leader and Captain are always on the lookout, assessing the weather and sea conditions to pick the perfect spot and moment for this exhilarating experience. Whether it's from the shore, off the gangway, or the edge of a Zodiac, participants, clad in tethered harnesses for safety, leap into the chilly embrace of the polar sea amid the cheers and encouragement of their fellow adventurers and the Expedition Team.

Safety is our top priority during the Polar Plunge. The onboard physician is always present to oversee the event, ensuring everyone's well-being. Additionally, our guides, suited in survival gear, patrol the waters in Zodiacs, ready to assist as guests make their splash into the frigid waters, whether it's a bold jump or an adventurous cannonball.

Sea Kayaking*

Experience the beauty of the polar regions from the intimacy of a sea kayak. The onboard Sea Kayak Program gathers adventurers with a shared passion to explore the stunning landscapes of fjords, glacial fronts, or intricate sea ice formations together.

This program welcomes both novices and experienced kayakers to discover the polar regions from a distinctive vantage point. Depending on weather and operational conditions, the goal is to get kayaking as frequently as possible. Sea kayaking adventures typically begin with a Zodiac boat transferring participants from the ship to an optimal launch site. After exploring the waters, kayakers are brought back to the ship via Zodiac.ย

For safety, a Zodiac operated by a dedicated driver remains close at hand to provide help if needed. These kayak trips usually last from one and a half to three hours, blending adventure with unparalleled natural beauty.

*An extra cost is applicable. Please enquire about costs and availability at the time of reservation. Please note places on sea kayaking do sell out in advance, so forward booking is essential.
