North Pole Cruise Ship

Le Commandant Charcot

The only purpose-built expedition ship that can cruise to the North Pole, Le Commandant Charcot opens up new frontiers in polar exploration. The world’s first luxury icebreaker ship, Le Commandant Charcot, can push through ice floes up to 3 metres thick to reach the Geographical North Pole.

Ice sailing is a mesmerising experience and part of the Arctic adventure. Enjoy watching the vast expanse of polar scenery from the ship’s heated lagoon or the privacy of your balcony.

Le Commandant Charcot features hybrid electric and liquid natural gas propulsion, offering new levels of sustainability. Onboard scientists conduct polar research, furthering our knowledge of the remote polar regions.

The North Pole Cruise Experience

Only a handful of people in an exclusive group reach the Geographical North Pole each year. Sailing through the ice floes, it takes 6-7 days to reach the North Pole from Svalbard.

During the North Pole expedition, guests can enjoy lectures and shore excursions, including ice landings, with a team of expert guides. If the weather conditions allow, they will have the chance to take a polar plunge on the voyage.
North Pole expedition cruises include charter flights from Paris to Longyearbyen.

Plan Your Geographic North Pole Cruise

The Geographic North Pole lies at 90 degrees north, the most northerly point on Earth. Due to the heavy sea ice, it is off limits to regular expedition ships. North Pole cruises on Le Commandant Charcot operate during the short summer season from July to September.
